Sensitive society design ideas:

  • Creating videos of people eating raw meat
  • Make a storyline of killing people and animals, then turning them into lipstick,(inspired by the song Lipstick by Ariel Pink)and as a physical lipstick product made out of real pig’s blood (in a vintage style).Consumerism of the meat industry displayed in a different way, to shock people into seeing their consumerism in a different light aka the beauty industry. Create via illustration and two-tone screen-printing
  • A small town in South East Asia called Toraja celebrate killing animals and humans alike, and they treat them the same in death. Considering this is our sensitivity to killing and other taboo subjects come about due to the internet and the introduction of social media.

    Artis information:

Joseph Gerges:the art of making death beautiful. He created lithographs and detailed etchings of beautful animals but after death, or only parts, as you can see here in this piece it is the hanging carcass of an animal.  “investigations of the emotions and events that define our lives and commingle bitter and sweet moments that demand our compassion and propel us forward as human beings.” – Joseph Gerges

Kyle Cooper:His title scenes for movies and tv like se7en, American Horror Story, and The Walking Dead have always inspired me in my work. The shock he receives from his intro scenes is something I would like to achieve in my work about dead perception and sensitive cultures.kyle cooper

Zhu Yu:With his performance art about cannibalism being investigated by the FBI and even being on a documentary about china has made is work prolific in shock factor. I think this type of work could be considered extreme to the usual person, but to me and to other creative minds, I feel as though this work is very interesting and the reasons to why are even more interesting.

https://www.widewalls.ch/shock-art-21-century:/:This article contains interesting information about weather shock art is still as shocking today. The aesthetics of shock became possibly the only quality of the art practice. In our times the more obscure, disturbing and offensive art is, the bigger chances are it will be praised for its originality.

    Movie reference:

Wolf Creek, making gore and things you don’t want to see like mutilated bodies into a movie about a serial killer in Australia who kills for fun, also making the psychopathic killer almost likeable through his personality.

A Serbian Film, is a film about a struggling porn star who gets persuaded to participate in an ‘art film’ which turns out to get a lot of attention for its graphic depictions of rape, necrophilia and child sexual abuse.

This is one of the reviews describing how mentally scaring:

I wanted got include this in my research to show how far films can go in the desire to shock and disgust us, the fact that this film got invested by the Serbian state for crime against sexual morals and crime related to the protection of minors is good research for my idea of shock factor in art, and good research into what can mess up mental health in a way. Although this movie is probably the most extreme form of shock factor in art, and I may not go in this direction as it is mentally scaring I did want to use it as research.

Media attempt to piss people off through twitter a lot of controversial tweets are made and this one feels relevant to my project as I feel think will annoy a lot of people not just people who don’t eat meat.

media view on meat eating twitter

    Carnage the movie:

Concentrates on the idea that people in the future are all vegan and people are having to go to therapy in order to overcome the fact that they once ate meat. however this movie is a mockumentry so it also includes dark humour around the idea of eating animals.

Mark Quinns head:

as I am looking into making a physical product out of blood I knew I had to reference Mark Quinns head called ‘Self’ a self portrait.  He’s been creating these sculptures every five years since 1991. The series, which was made during a time the artist was an alcoholic, is a way to document and preserve the natural aging process as well as a symbol of his dependency.

Advertisements:

Oliviero toscani, controversial campaigns.

He shows images on new born babies which is natural however it wasn’t taken Kindly by the public because it was something they thought should be censored. Images of a loving lesbian relationship, which in 1991, lesbians would be overly sexualised so them being in a loving relationship with a baby is out of place. an image of a dead person covered in a sheet, and images of hearts to compare different races.

His work is contradictory to what is classed as acceptable at the time.

More controversial adverts:

BURBERRY new spring/summer 2019 collection:

this fashion line is a very high end brand which is embracing modern ideologies within it clothing. these items all display images and words that almost advertise animal death within their clothes, almost like subliminal messaging within the clothing, hidden behind high end fashion.

here are two items that I think are questionable and could be interpreted in different ways.

‘cow’ just telling you what the skirt is made out of, and ‘why did they kill bambi’ on a deer printed shirt. they are almost saying  ‘because we can’.

Clunie Reid:

Clunie Reid is a great reference for my style of work in this project. Reid examines representations and relationships between the internal and external, image and text, perception and understanding, looking particularly at advertising imagery. her ideas, relate to mine about advertisement, and exploring counter ideas to the usual adverts or cultural norms we see everyday.

I also really like her style, it matches mine in the idea of wording, and raw style. I Love the take she uses to stick her work to the wall rather than mounting it, I feel like it adds to the rawness and the rebelliousness of the work, as their presentation, images are printed directly on aluminium without being laminated, gaffer-taped to the wall and arranged to make a non-hierarchical, non-linear arrangement which can be scanned and negotiated in no particular order.
